Body Composition Assignment Step 1: Using a cloth tape measure (similar to the following – http://www.amazon.com/Hawk-Importers-Cloth-Tape-Measure/dp/B003V565B4), follow the directions on these two websites to come up with an estimate of your body composition. Make certain that you’re taking circumferences on the right side of the body, while standing upright and relaxed (don’t flex). • http://www.calculator.net/body-fat-calculator.html • https://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/body-fat-percentage-calculatorStep 2: Locate a facility that performs at least one of the following field tests for body composition and have at least one test conducted with you as the subject. • DEXA • BODPOD • Skinfold • Bioelectrical Impedance (BIA) The first step in locating a facility with these services would be calling a gym, health club, medical fitness or wellness center in your area. If they are credible, they should have at least one of these metrics to measure body composition. You can search for BODPOD locations in your area at the following website: http://www.cosmedusa.com/en/test-site-locator. You might also be able to find a DEXA: http://www.dexafit.com/dexafit-store-mapper. It is up to you, as the student, to find a location that offers at least one of these services.Step 3: Critically analyze the results from the websites and the results from the field testing. In 3-5 pages, explain the similarities and differences between all three, the level of accuracy or error of each, and why one would be better than the other two. External citations are welcome and encouraged, as long as they’re cited in proper APA format. Make sure you’re answering the following questions in your analysis: • Why is it important to know one’s body composition and body fat percentage? • What health risks might it imply if body fat is excessively high or excessively low? • How could you use body composition for your clients? • What have you learned through this assignment that will better prepare you as a professional?
